A brooding if elegant nose reflects ripe yet very fresh aromas of earth and underbrush along with notes of plum, cassis and violet. There is outstanding mid-palate density to the intensely mineral-inflected large-scaled yet refined flavors that culminate in a focused, linear and still youthfully austere finish. I would note that this improved materially as it sat in the glass so I would suggest decanting it for up to an hour first. As to maturity, this remains very youthful and I would be strongly inclined to continue to cellar this for at least another 5 years and 10 would be better.

The 2005 Latricieres-Chambertin displays fresh and lightly-cooked black cherry, fennel and licorice in the nose. A deep meatiness and pungent spiciness unite with sweet richness of fruit on the palate, leading to a staining intensity of bitter-sweet black cherry, licorice, meat juices and cassis in a full-throttle finish. This powerful wine is not about refinement or elegance but it is undeniably impressive and age worthy.
