Simply gorgeous sexy, seductive nose of spice and hints of soy and anise followed by medium weight, supple, forward, velvety flavors that finish with unmistakable breed and class. This is not a big wine but rather one built on finesse and understated elegance. Drinking perfectly, even from magnum format.

The 1989 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has a fragrant bouquet with lovely floral/incense and iris aromas that combine beautifully with the black cherry and boysenberry scents, a little iodine emerging later. The palate is very well balanced with good depth, again quite floral in style with supple tannin. Maybe it lacks the elegance of the 2002 Les Amoureuses but it feels velvety smooth and offers just perfect salinity on the finish that makes you coming back for another sip. For me, this outflanks the 1989 Bonnes-Mares. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Roumier dinner in Hong Kong.
